Week 17 – Family Activities

-Remind your family it is God’s Word and the water at baptism that welcomes us into God’s family. A candle is given at baptism to help remind us to shine our light to others. The cross reminds us of the gift of God’s forgiveness through the death of Jesus so that we can live a new life with Jesus now and forever.

-Discuss different ways your family uses water. Discuss how God uses water in a special through baptism.

-Talk about baptism. Share stories of each one’s baptism. Talk about baptisms that you have witnessed. What do you remember? What items are present at baptism?

-What does “generous” mean? Who do you know that is generous? Offer examples of God’s generosity with us. Since God is generous with us, we can show our response by being generous with others. We can spend time with other members of God’s family and invite others into the family. How can you share generosity with others?

-God makes great promises to us in baptism. Remember God’s love, forgiveness, and promise to always be with us, helping us to grow each day. Hold fast to those promises as you meet the challenges of each day.

-Using a small amount of water in a bowl, dip your finger in the bowl and trace the sign of the cross on your forehead or the forehead of someone in your family. As you do this, say, “Remember your baptism. God loves you. Jesus loves.” Consider adding this to your family’s faith rituals.

-Another ritual to consider adding is trace the sign of the cross on your own forehead or someone in your family and say, “God loves you,     name of family member     and promises to always be with you.”

-FACTOID – Rainfall and three springs supply the Jordan River. It joins the Sea of Galilee (also called Lake Gennesaret or Kinneret) and the Dead Sea.

-FACTOID -The dove is often the symbol of the Spirit of God or Holy Spirit. The angel told Joseph that Mary’s child was “from the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20).
