RENEWING GOD’S HOUSE TOGETHER THROUGH WORSHIP: Luke 4:8 “Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”

At this year’s Salem picnic, Jason Lantz and I were able to have some more fun with another spinoff skit from the orange and blue tuxedo characters of the movie Dumb and Dumber.  After demonstrating some “unique” ways to pray and to invite others to church, we sang a new song.  The tune came from a bluegrass band “Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver”.  Although many of the lyrics were modified to humorously fit Salem Lutheran Church, the chorus was a serious message that applies to our worship.  We pray, shout, and sing.

Chorus line 1: “And they pray…cause they know God is listening.”  We need to continually recognize that our worship is to honor and praise God. We talk with God through prayer and we know God is with us.  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”  Matthew 18:20

Chorus line 2: “And they shout AMEN…cause they understand God’s Word.”  Our liturgy contains scripture readings from the Old Testament, Psalms, and New Testament including one from the Gospel books.  We are to be enthusiastic in our understanding of God’s Word.

Chorus line 3: “And they sing…lift their voices up to heaven.”  We sing at worship service to praise God.  Whether I’m singing in the pew, or with the choir, or with the men’s quartet, I enjoy praising God through song.

Let us pray.  Gracious God, we thank you for your presence in our lives.  May our worship be pleasing to you as we pray, shout, and sing.  Amen.

In response to the recent Health Advisory issued by Peoria City/County Health Department describing rising levels of COVID cases and concerns, the planned outdoor worship service has been cancelled. Worship will still take place live at 6pm, but with worship leadership only. It will be recorded and available for viewing by 8am on Sunday, July 26.
This decision is not taken lightly but very seriously as we strive to follow health officials recommendations and cautions. We do this because we love one another and want what’s best for one another. In this time of pandemic, that means refraining from indoor as well as outdoor gatherings of larger sized groups.

The drive by farewell for Kristen will still take place on Sunday beginning at 10:30am as we will remain in our cars. Thank you for your cooperation.
