SALEM LUTHERAN SERVICE PROJECT
God's Work. Our Hands.
“God’s Work. Our hands.” is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
On September 8, ELCA churches all across the country will join together in their own communities and in their own ways to do God’s work in Christ’s name for the life of the world.
ABOUT THE SERVICE PROJECT
At Salem, on September 8, we will assemble the items we have collected for 1,000 Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief (LWR). Yes! It’s a big goal. But the need is great.
LWR personal care kits contain small items, such as soap, a toothbrush, a comb – wrapped in a bath towel – and may sound inconsequential to us. But given to a person after a natural disaster or when violence drives families from their homes – this kit is a tangible way to say that you matter. We see you. You are loved and cared for.
Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life — flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
LWR Kits
There are many ways for you to be a part of this of project. Prayers, donations, time. Together we can bring our own gifts to help share the love of God to our neighbor.
A collection bin will be available at church for the kit items. Items needed for the kits:
- – one light-weight bath-size towel (between 20” x 40” and 27” x 52”) – solid, dark color
- – two or three bath-size bars of soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand, in original wrapping
- – one adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging
- – one sturdy comb
- – one metal nail clippers (attached file optional)
**All items must be new and good quality, please!
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) saves and improves lives in the poorest parts of the world. Their mission is to persist until your love reaches every neighbor.
