Family Activities – Week 9

-Sit in a circle and have an item to pass around. Find some music to play. Pass the item around while the music is playing. Whoever is holding the item when the music stops, needs to sing or hum a line from their favorite song. In our story, Samuel had to listen four times before he knows who is calling him. How difficult was it to think of your favorite song after listening to other music? Sometimes it is hard to hear God’s call.

-How do you think God called Samuel? Sometimes God sent angels. Sometimes God sent dreams. Once God even spoke in a burning bush. In our story, God calls Samuel like a parent calls a child. It took Samuel four times to respond to God’s call. Talk about ways or times that you have responded to God’s call in your life.

-Think about a time when you told a lie and then explained, justified, and reasoned why?

-Play the game of “Telephone.” Whisper a message to someone next you (examples: God loves you, Tell a friend about God, Speak the truth, Pray to God, Love one another) and keep passing it around until it reaches the last person. The last person announces the message. Compare it with the first message.

-Look and share information on one of the following artists who have answered God’s call through their art: Albrecht Durer, El Greco, Leonardo daVinci, Michelangelo, or Salvadore Dali.

-God called Samuel to tell others about God’s love. God calls us to tell others about God’s love, also. Talk about ways that your family and you can answer God’s call to tell others.
