Family Activities – Week 6

• Talk about Bible times foods and if available purchase some to try. Examples: olives, goat’s cheese, pomegranate seeds, dates, golden raisins, figs, matzoh, pita bread. After trying some of these discuss if you like it. Would you eat a food that no one has ever seen before? In our story today, the Israelites are hungry and God provides a strange, new food.

• Talk about manna and quail. Manna is similar to bread. Manna actually means, “what is it?” Have you ever seen a quail? Pheasant? Grouse? Chicken? Look up and read about these types of birds.

• The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. That was longer than most people lived in Bible times. Many people that started the journey did not live to see Canaan, the land the God promised to give them (often referred to as “The Promised Land”).  Do you think the Israelites got tired of eating manna and quail for 40 years? What food could you eat every day for 40 years?

• The Israelites saw God’s love for them every day in the manna and quail. They were thankful for this food. We see God’s love for us every day in food, people, and creation. Write a prayer with your family to thank God.

•Think about ways your family can help people that are hungry in our community and throughout the world. Some people don’t have enough food and are hungry. How can you help share what you have?
