Family Activities – Week 20

-God seeks us when we are lost. When was a time that you felt lost and confused? How did God find you and bring you back?

-Talk about when you have lost something. Encourage your family members to name something of great importance. Ask if they found what they were looking for…how they felt as they were looking for it…and how they felt if they found it.

-Share when you have been suffering and someone helped and had compassion for you. Discuss what “compassion” means. When we show compassion, we feel concerned about someone who is hurt or suffering. Name ways people can be hurt or suffer. How do we feel when we’re hurt or suffering? How do we feel when someone else is hurt of suffering?

-Discuss how God loves all of us. God does not want anyone to be lost or hurt or suffering. How can we show God’s love to others when someone is lost or hurt or suffering? Maybe think about how you would finish this sentence: “I show God’s love to others when I …”

-What do you know about sheep and the wool that comes from sheep? Maybe spend a little time researching sheep. Jesus used sheep as an example in our story because sheep and shepherds were common during the time Jesus lived. Jesus knew that people would understand his point.

-Factoid: Early Christian communities were groups who met together in believers’ homes. Such a “house church” was responsible for seeking out and restoring members who strayed.
