Family Activities – Week 14

-The Gospel of John tells the Christmas story in a different way. In this Gospel, we don’t hear about baby Jesus in a manger. Instead, we learn that John the Baptist was a messenger who helped other people get ready for Jesus, the Light of the world. In this story, Jesus is called, “The Word.” Read from the Gospel of John – John 1:1-18. Remind your family that Jesus was a messenger of God’s love.

-Play a simple game of telephone. Whisper “Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness” (or similar phrase) in the ear of the first person. After everyone has heard the message, ask the last person to repeat what was heard. Talk about ways that the meaning of the message can change. Discuss how your family can share the message of Christmas.

-Read from other Bibles or books you may have at home the story of birth of Jesus. There are many ways to tell the story.

-Sing some Christmas carols or look up favorite songs on YouTube.

-Drive around town and look at Christmas lights and decorations. Play some Christmas songs in the car. Maybe bring along hot chocolate and cookies or special treat. Talk about how Jesus is the Light of the World. Share ideas of how each one of us can be a “light” to others.
